What does it take to get free and stay free?

In this episode, Josh and Corina talk about daily habits for spiritual warfare and how to continue walking in the freedom Jesus already paid for. They unpack the tension many believers feel between what the Bible says is true and what they are currently experiencing in real life.

Corina shares a story about a client who had received healing but began to feel afraid when symptoms returned. Through their coaching sessions, God revealed that she did not have to earn her healing and that fear was making it harder for her to hear God’s voice. As she partnered with truth, broke agreement with fear, and listened to what God was saying, she experienced powerful breakthrough.

Josh and Corina also talk about the difference between receiving freedom as a gift and walking it out in daily life. Just like salvation, healing and deliverance are received by grace through faith, but we still get to partner with God as we work out what He has already given us. Freedom belongs to us in Christ, but we often need to renew our minds, break agreement with lies, and take back any authority we have given to the enemy through fear, unbelief, or old patterns of thinking.

Using the example of Israel entering the Promised Land, they explain that God had already given His people the land, but they still had to step into it, obey His instructions, and take possession of what was theirs. In the same way, believers are invited to stand on God’s truth, listen for His battle plan, and partner with Him in obedience.

So recently I had a client who had been healed, but then she felt like she lost her healing when the symptoms started to come back because she thought basically that she lost her faith, that she stopped believing that God would heal her and so he took it away from her. And through our time together, God revealed that she didn't have to earn her healing, that it was already hers. It's up to Him. He's given us healing freely. But the reality was that she was still fighting symptoms and that made her feel doubtful, it made her feel fearful. And so we just really worked on partnering with the truth and the biggest thing that we overcame was that lie of fear. And once we overcame that, it really helped her to hear the truth more easily because as we've talked about so many times, fear is one of those things that blocks us from hearing God's voice because it's hard to find his voice when we're afraid of everything that we're actually we're hearing. It was really interesting for me because I, I know this tension of this is what the Bible says is true, but I'm not experiencing it in my real life. And so how do we engage in spiritual warfare in those times? Because really it comes down to spiritual attack. That's the enemy lying about what God has already given us. And so maybe that's something you've struggled with and you don't have to stay stuck. That's the best part. We spent three sessions together and she got so much breakthrough. She was a completely different person by the end of those three weeks. And God has that for you too. You were made to hear his voice and to walk in freedom. So we would love to teach you that simple process that we use to overcome limiting beliefs and to just break away those things that hold you back from hearing God's voice clearly for your situation. So if you would like to work with us, you can go to joshandkarina.com coaching the link is in the show notes and you can begin your journey to freedom because that is what we're all about. [00:03:51] Josh: I love that story that you told about your client that felt like she lost something. But the truth is, when God gives us something, it's ours. It's our inheritance. We get to keep that. I know it says in Job, the Lord gives, the Lord takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. But that's actually not God speaking there. And so that's actually not a truth. It is in the Bible, but it's not true. God doesn't give and take away. He always gives because he's a good father. And the scripture says if your son asks you for a fish, you know that whole scripture, like, you're not going [00:04:31] Corina: to give him a stone. [00:04:32] Josh: You're not going to give him a stone. And God's way better than any earthly father. And so live on that truth. Not that God's going to give something to you and take it away when he heals you, when he sets you free, you're free indeed. Who the son sets free is free indeed. And that's a promise that you can take to the bank. Those are words of Jesus right there. So there's always this tension in scripture about, okay, God, I'm going to receive something from God, he wants to give it to me, but then do I have to do something? Do I have to earn it? Well, no, you don't have to earn it, but you do. Sometimes there are steps that you have to take. [00:05:11] Corina: So I like to think about it in light of salvation. So just like she felt like she received a healing, but then it was taken away. Often when we are saved, we believe that we're saved, but then we go and try to earn the salvation. It's kind of the same idea. But Ephesians 2, 8 and 9 says, for it is by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not from yourselves. It is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast. And so we know we are saved. And so I, you know, I did the thing when I was a kid. I was raised in church and kind of in post holiness movement sort of church. And so every week there was an altar call and, you know, fire and brimstone and all the things. And so every week I got saved because it was really hard for me because I knew, you know, I had had a bad thought or I had maybe not been as honest as it should have been or whatever it was that you feel guilty about as a child. And so I would go get saved again and again and again until I, I finally had that assurance and knew, oh, actually God saved me the first time. I didn't have to keep earning my salvation. I didn't have to behave a certain way in order to be saved. And so we really go by faith, believing that we are saved. We might see evidence of it in our lives, but there's not this like physical manifestation of salvation. We are saved by faith. But then there's this tension like you were talking about in Philippians 2, 12 and 13. Paul says, Work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for his pleasure. And so you have this tension of I'm saved and I believe I'm saved, but also I do have to work out my salvation and I have to continue to believe that I'm saved. Otherwise you're like me as a child going back to the altar every week to get saved again and again and again. And it's the same thing with receiving healing or receiving deliverance. We get to receive it without having done anything to earn it. Because that word saved actually means saved, delivered and healed. So just the same way you're saved in Christ, you, you are healed in him, and you are delivered and set free in Him. But we have to continue to walk that out, to work out that Salvation to work out. What does that healing look like? How do I partner with God to continue to walk in freedom? And that is. It's tricky because it feels like I have to earn it. But in reality, you've already got it. You already have everything that you need. Jesus paid the price for all of those things for you. [00:07:48] Josh: Yeah. And we just get to receive it as a gift. And isn't it. It's just like the enemy to keep us wound up in trying to decide, am I really saved? Did it really work? I don't feel saved today. Am I saved? Well, our feelings lie to us because often the enemy uses those against us. But we know the truth, that we are saved. It's the same thing with your healing. I was healed. I just have to stand in that. I don't have to do anything. But the enemy's gonna try to go pick out your and get you all spun up. And then you never get to move past that initial part of being saved. That being saved, healed and delivered. We don't move past that into all of what God has his full inheritance for us. And that's what God wants us to enter that promised land. Just like the Israelites don't just stay on the edge of the promised land, looking in, going, well, that looks pretty cool. But I don't know if I'm ready yet. I don't know if I've earned it. He wants us to actually step in and take that territory, to inhabit the promised land and benefit from all of those beautiful blessings that he has for us. [00:08:52] Corina: Yeah. And it's such a good picture because the Israelites really did that. They just wandered in the desert for 40 years. Like, we're not ready. We're not. We don't believe God to take hold of what he's already given us. And that's such a good picture because that's sometimes what we do. We end up in. Like Josh said, just in while I'm saved. I have the fire insurance. Right. Like I've got. I'm going to heaven. And so that's good enough. I'm just gonna stay here. Because the other stuff is really can feel. And I think the difference with our salvation is we know that it is something that we have to believe for we know that it's not something that I'm going to see this side of heaven. But when you have something like healing or even deliverance, where you feel like there's a visible change that happens when you're healed or something, you're a completely different person. When you're delivered. That's hard to continue to believe when you're not seeing this side of heaven. And those are the things that we contend for, that we want to see. And so there's this tension of we've received it just like the Israelites. The promised land was theirs, but they still had to do something for it. [00:10:01] Josh: Right. [00:10:01] Corina: And that's kind of the tricky part, that we don't actually have to do anything to earn it. It already belongs to us. But we do have to partner with God and we have to be obedient. [00:10:10] Josh: Yeah. And that's just like when the Israelites went in. The first battle that they fought was at Jericho. And God didn't say go in and fight. He actually gave them this bizarre plan. Let's march around the city for seven days. And then on the last day, we're gonna, you know, blow the trumpets. Blow the trumpets and cheer, and the walls are gonna fall down, and then it's yours. And so many times what God asks us to do is maybe doesn't make sense to the world. It doesn't make sense to our logical minds. But God knows, and really he's looking at the condition of our hearts. Are we going to be obedient maybe to the weird or crazy things that he asks us to do? Are we going to be obedient in order to step into that blessing? And so he might ask you to do something weird like jump up and down or stand on one foot and pat your head and rub your tummy or something. You know, something like that. [00:11:01] Corina: It will feel like that. [00:11:02] Josh: It feels silly. Silly. Is this really working? Is this really doing anything? But so much of the spiritual realm around us, we don't really understand how it works that well. And God's trying to teach us and lead us in obedience through faith. Actually, I'm with you. I'm for you. And I'm going to get you where you need to go. You just kind of got to trust me. It's all about relationship with God and trusting him. [00:11:27] Corina: Yeah. And I think that there's this kind of. We, like, want God to just zap us. Yes. And then it's like, taken care of. Right. Like, I got prayed for, now I'm healed, and then I don't have to think about it anymore. I can just go on my merry way, doing what I've always done and being who I've always been. But really, transformation happens when we renew our minds with the truth. And mind renewal is how we fight. That's how we fight the enemy. In whatever area he is attacking by intentionally agreeing with and declaring what God has said. When we do that, we're tearing down those old strongholds of lies, and we are building new strongholds of faith. And their. Their foundation is trut. And so that causes us to become new people. That is where the renewing of your mind leads to a transformed life. And this is really how we fight, by continuing to say, I believe what God said. God said, I am saved, healed and delivered. I am saved, healed and delivered. These are the scriptures that he gave me. This is the promise that he made me. And we renew our minds so that the enemy no longer has a place to attach those lies that we believe that we agree with from the time we're little. Often, often it's things that happen when you're a child. You start to believe these lies and you agree with them. Those are places where the enemy can come in and grab a hold and he gets a stronghold on you. And so when we begin to uproot those lies, those strongholds have to fall, but we have to replace them with the truth, otherwise the enemy's going to come back in and just start building new strongholds. And we don't want that. [00:13:07] Josh: I think as believers, as Christ followers, we always live in this tension of I get to receive, but I also have. There are things that we have to do we have to be intentional about. So many of us sit around waiting to get zapped. Well, if God wants it to happen, it'll happen. He'll make it happen. Sometimes we actually have to start moving forward and taking some action based on what God is telling us to do. And as we do that, we actually discern the voice of God better. We understand what he's asking us to do, and he can course correct us to, okay, now you're moving. I can take you where you need to go. It's wonderful. We love it when God zaps us with the deliverance, with the healing. But it doesn't always work like that. Sometimes God is inviting us into a conversation, into a relationship, into a trust, obedience relationship that he wants for us because that's ultimately what grows us the most. And his heart is for you. He wants your heart and he wants to be close to you. And so whatever it takes to get you into that relationship with him, he's going to do. And sometimes, yes, he will miraculously zap you. We love that. Sometimes it takes some intentionality on our part. And a story that I like to share is we went to a conference. I had been struggling with anxiety and fear and digestive issues, I really couldn't eat very much. That didn't make my stomach upset, give me problems. So we went to this conference. It was wonderful. Nobody prayed for me. It was just in worship. I felt a weight physically fall off of my side, and I was like, whoa, what was that? I felt something. And I just knew in my spirit that that was my healing. Like, I had received healing for my anxiety. I'd received healing for my body, for my digestive issues. And after that day, I was totally different. I could eat things that I couldn't eat the day before. I just miraculously felt free from all the anxiety and the fear and the worries, and it was incredible. I had maybe two or three months of just feeling so free and so light and being able to just enjoy food again. It was amazing. But then slowly, those thoughts of worry and fear started to creep back in. Slowly, I started having digestive issues again. And I said, well, I thought I was healed. Well, it turns out that I actually had to do something to partner with that healing. And it wasn't that I needed to earn it, but it was that I needed to continue to trust God. I needed to renew my mind with the truth that, yes, I had been healed. Yes, I had been set free. Yes, God is continuing to take care of me. I don't have to be afraid. I don't have to worry. I don't have to be anxious and change the way that I'm thinking, to break down those strongholds that I've been believing for way too long. And then as I started to be intentional about that process, the deliverance came, the healing came, the freedom came back. But I still had to be active doing something and not to earn it. It's a gift that I received from God, but I needed to be in that relationship with him, trusting him every day for that healing that I so desperately need, for that freedom that I needed. [00:16:26] Corina: Well, and I think that's such a good example of Zappage plus the walking it out, and it really shows how it's all him, but then we get to partner with it. So even though you had the healing, and I would say this is pretty parallel to what my client experienced, where you receive that healing and you feel it physically, but then it starts to feel like the symptoms are coming back, the worries are coming back. And so learning to walk out that healing and walk out that freedom to hold onto it. And I really think this is why the Israelites had to fight for the promised land. It already belonged to Them, God had already promised it to them, but they had to fight for it. Because God knew once you're there, someone's going to try to come and take it away from you. [00:17:14] Josh: Yeah, you got to be strong enough. [00:17:15] Corina: You have to be strong enough to keep it. Yeah. And so we have. We have this opportunity. God gives us this. This really. I mean, it's not even just a choice. It is something that is so beautiful where he invites us to become stronger, to grow as believers, to come closer to him as we learn to fight for our inheritance and to keep what rightfully belongs to us. Because the reality is the enemy only has the authority that we give him. Jesus said, all authority has been given to me. And then he said, I give you this authority. He gave it to us. And so we are the ones that have the authority. But when we believe lies, when we continue to allow those lies to dictate our lives, when we agree with them, with our words, with our actions, or just with our meditation, then we're giving the enemy authority in that area of our life. And so you get the privilege of taking it back. That's really what it comes down to. Devil, you don't have authority in this. This belongs to me. I have freedom over this sin, over this sickness, over these thoughts. I have freedom in this area because God promised it to me. And so you don't get to take it. [00:18:31] Josh: And God is raising up sons and daughters in his kingdom, to be rulers, to be priests and kings, that we get to use that authority. And so that is the process that he's taking you through to teach you how to use the authority that you already have. And if you never go through anything or he always just zaps you and you're miraculously healed, you don't know what you have. You don't understand, understand your authority. But once you exercise that in your own life, then you get to actually bring that to other people. You can use that authority to help other people get free. He's raising you up. And so it's this process that he leads all of us through of getting free. He sets us up for success so that we win those battles. He doesn't set you up for failure. How many of us think, oh, God, oh, here's another trial, I'm probably going to mess it up? No, he says, you actually have everything you need to be successful in this situation. Otherwise I wouldn't allow you to go through it. And then, so he equips you to be successful so that you understand who you are and who he Created you [00:19:38] Corina: to be one of our mentors. Connie Jones, she always says that anything that happens in your life is for your victory. Any battle that you fight, it's for your victory. Anything that you face, it is for your victory. And that is the bottom line that God is for us. He's not against us. He is great inside of you. Greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world. So when the enemy comes against you is just a setup for your victory. It is just another opportunity for you to win. And so you can know that whatever you're facing, it is for your good, it's for your victory. No matter how hard it feels, no matter how heavy it feels. And yeah, we're going to have to fight. And sometimes that feels like, well, I. I'm just resting in the Lord. I'm not going to do anything until I receive. Well, that's great. But what is he asking you to do? And that really is kind of our action steps this week is what is go God asking you to do? How can you partner with him in the area where you are feeling attacked? How can you partner with him to move forward, to stand on the truth? What is he saying about your situation? Making that time. Make that time to sit with him, to listen. God, what do you want me to know about this and what do you want me to do? And then give him the. The opportunity to speak into your situation. He has something very specific to say to you, but if we never stop to listen, we won't know. And I loved your example of Jericho. And, you know, the initial, I think instinct would be, well, God said, we're taking the city, so let's go fight it. But to stop and say, God, what are we supposed to do? And then he gives Joshua this, like, crazy strategy, it's okay, let's do it. And God might have something for you that seems a little out of the box, but when we partner with him, we will see the victory because that's what he's about. [00:21:34] Josh: So God is really good at giving us battle plans. And it probably won't make sense in the natural and the logical. Sometimes it does. But he knows exactly what we need, and he's going to lead you in that. Just like Corina said, once you make time to just be with him and listen to him, do what he says, be obedient, and sometimes that's hard. But that obedience is the first step into breakthrough. So many times I'm going to do something that doesn't make sense. I'm going to Just turn worship music on and jump around my house till that feeling breaks. So just listen to what God's saying. Be intentional about that. So many times it's just being intentional and being aware of what God's speaking to you. And then the other thing is to be aware of the lies that you've been believing for too long. Ask the Holy Spirit, what lies am I believing in this situation? What is the truth? And then just break agreement with those lies, renounce them and take back the authority that you gave away. When we believe the liar, we give him authority. But once you stop that, he has no authority. He has no right to be sticking around. You can kick him out. And so once you do that process, that's where you start to get freedom. Now sometimes it takes a while. You gotta put that into practice. And every time you start thinking an old thought or oh, I believe in that lie again, no, you say, I renounce this lie. I'm not gonna believe it anymore. I'm taking back my authority. I have the victory in Jesus. He paid the price for me. And take your authority back. And the enemy, he's gonna keep poking at you for a little bit, but he really has no authority at that point. You just kick him out and then replace that with the truth. You don't want to leave an empty room for him to come back. Oh, there's nobody guarding it. No. You fill up that space in your mind with the truth and then it reprograms your thinking. That's how we break down those thoughts. That's the key to mind renewal and really the key to spiritual warfare battlefield is in our mind. So many times it's all about what we're thinking, what we're believing. Because those beliefs impact how we act, they impact what we say. And so as we're intentional to break down those old lies, those old patterns of thinking, and replace them with God's truth. That's how we're transformed by the renewing of our mind. From Romans 12:2. [00:24:01] Corina: Yeah. And that's what we do in our Clarity coaching program. We want to reconnect you with God's voice to help you demolish those lies, to hear the truth. And as you work with us, you will learn our proven five step process to overcome those lies and that are holding you back and to just step into the truth so that you can renew your mind with what God says and break free from those strongholds that have held you back for too long. So you can book your Clarity coaching session at the link in the show. Notes. We just want to come alongside you and empower you with the tools that we have so that you can walk in the freedom that God has for you. [00:24:43] Josh: We want everybody to be free. It is so, so worth it to live your life the way that God intended. Not bound by lies, not bound by the enemy anymore. You can walk in freedom and it is really not that hard of a process. It works amazing. God always shows up and he leads our clients into such amazing freedom. It's such a privilege that we get to partner with the Lord and see him work so powerfully in people's lives every single day. So we hope that these steps have been helpful for you when you're facing a situation, when you're struggling with, oh, did I really receive my healing? Am I really set free? Go ahead and put those action steps into practice. Just ask God, what do I need to believe about this situation? What do you want to do? Me? Want me to know? What do I need to do? And then be obedient. It's pretty simple. Sometimes it takes a little bit of, oh, I'm going to do it. But God always leads you into victory. Everything in your life, he's setting you up to be victorious. [00:26:00] Corina: Hey, friend. We hope you enjoyed today's episode.
